Strawberry Agua Fresca (Printable)

Vibrant strawberry and lime drink, lightly sweetened and chilled for a refreshing, hydrating summer sip.

# What you need:

→ Fruit

01 - 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and halved

→ Citrus

02 - 1/3 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 2–3 limes)

→ Sweetener

03 - 1/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)

→ Liquid

04 - 3 cups cold water

→ Garnish (optional)

05 - Lime slices
06 - Fresh mint leaves
07 - Extra strawberries, sliced

# Directions:

01 - Place the strawberries, lime juice, sugar, and 1 cup of the cold water in a blender. Blend until fully smooth and homogenous.
02 - Pass the purée through a fine-mesh strainer into a large pitcher, using the back of a spoon to press and extract as much liquid as possible; discard the remaining pulp.
03 - Add the remaining 2 cups of cold water to the strained liquid and stir briskly to combine.
04 - Taste and modify sweetness or acidity by adding more sugar or lime juice a little at a time until balanced.
05 - Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to develop flavor, or continue directly to the next step if serving immediately over ice.
06 - Pour over ice as desired and garnish with lime slices, mint leaves, and sliced strawberries before presenting.

# Expert tips:

01 -
  • It tastes like sipping fresh strawberries straight from the field, only cooler and more refreshing.
  • You can tweak the sweetness, the tartness, or the fizz with whatever you have on hand—nothing is fussy here.
02 -
  • Once I tried skipping the straining step to save time, only to end up with a drink that was thick and pulpy instead of refreshing.
  • Switching from granulated sugar to agave syrup made the drink dissolve more smoothly and added a subtle earthy note I hadn’t expected.
03 -
  • Choose strawberries that smell like summer—you can’t fake that kind of flavor in a drink like this.
  • Blending longer than you think you need avoids any fibrous bits sneaking into the final pour.
